We're excited to introduce you to another remarkable colleague dedicated to supporting our unhoused community members. Meet Grace Lopez, an Assistant Program Manager at Jamboree Housing, nominated by her colleague Paul San Felipe for her work in supportive services for Iluma Apartments and Jamboree's CalOptima program. Learn about the role that solidified her commitment to housing and homelessness, and more, below!
How did you initially become involved with this work?
I initially became involved in this line of work when I became a residential counselor at an all-boy’s foster home. I noticed a pattern of homelessness with the boys that left the home, which pushed me to pursue a career that would allow me to help houseless individuals on a larger scale. And Jamboree does exactly what I was hoping to pursue.
What is your favorite part of your job?
One of my favorite aspects of working in this field includes the camaraderie between the residents and staff. This position allows me to foster connections with people from different backgrounds, which is a beautiful experience that I am able to continuously appreciate as my time with Jamboree grows.
What do you envision for the future for the communities you serve?
I anticipate agencies like Jamboree to expand on pre-existing services used to address the some of the core issues attached to homelessness, and to adapt to the ever-changing culture of housing people, so that we can continue to thoroughly and effectively impact the needs of Orange County residents.
Thank you, Grace, for all that you do!
